Of humble beginnings just like every other Ejinn, Xyan was born to two loving parents in the Azim Steppe, along the shores of the One River. As is custom for her tribe, she grew into a strong swimmer and fisherwoman, collecting wares to peddle to passing merchant ships as they flowed down the river.
One day, one such merchant ship stopped for refill and trade with the tribe during the warm spring, the troupe of Hannish dancers therein enjoying a brief stay on land. During their stay, a cultural exchange was made, in which the Ejinn provided the best techniques for lancework in exchange for lessons in dance and footwork. Xyan was one such trainnee, quickly learning the graceful steps of the combatitive dance arts.
However, not all days on the Azim Steppe are rife with peace and tranquility. In the weeks approaching the Nadhaam, tribes were making their attempts at capturing new tribe members to aid in their bids for Khagan. The Ejinn tribe was one such victim of these attacks, with nets being cast into their waters during routine travels. Xyan was among one of the xaela ensnared, protecting a child from capture. Breaking free from her captors, she struggled against the ropes and was swept downstream as her tribe escaped.
Through a stroke of good fortune, an auspice of water found her, and bid her a gift - for her survival, she was granted the ability to breathe underwater like that of a Kojin. However, the monkey's paw curled, and she was doomed to never live life normally again - she could not stay on land for the extended periods expected of a normal spoken. Finally breaking free from the net, the Xaela was born anew - no longer was she an ebony-scaled woman, but instead her scales were imbued with pinks and blues. Upon her return, she was venerated as a blessing from Nhaama, seen as a good omen for her tribe.
Nowadays, she drifts wherever the waters take her, be it out to sea to foreign lands or to the comforts of shopping and cuisine. But one thing is for certain - she tries to be a pleasant face to all those she encounters.
